Nicola McDonald of Victoria, East Coast Demerara, lost her legs to diabetes fifteen years ago and has no source of income. She depends on her only child, Odessa John, and other relatives for assistance.

A worried John visited Stabroek News on Friday saying that her mother was in urgent need of assistance since their food supply was almost exhausted and she did not know who else to turn to.

In May this year, the house McDonald lives in with her 75-year-old mother and other relatives tumbled to the ground.

According to John, they still reside in the dilapidated structure as they have no means of repairing it and nowhere else to go.

John told Stabroek News that she looked after her mother and in the past persons had donated items to them. However the donations were not as frequent as before.

In November last year, McDonald called ‘Zeeta’ and her mother were badly chopped about their bodies by the amputee’s irate husband who has since been charged and is on remand.

Stabroek News was told that McDonald’s life first took a turn for the worse when a cut on her leg was not healing properly. It was then discovered that she had diabetes and her legs were later amputated. Up until that point, she was an average young woman who was earning a decent living selling in a shop.

John said that her mother attended clinic twice a week and was receiving treatment for her condition.

Anyone desirous of helping McDonald could make contact with her daughter on 639-4820.
