Bravo Arts, a six-member team of body-painting artists headed by Steve Douglas, will mount a body-art exhibition using designs-on-skin motifs to depict twelve themes on twelve models specially chosen for the one-day event which is scheduled for Friday at Castellani House.
A release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport said that the designs or themes are meant to “rediscover Guyana through the medium of body-art.”
Towards this objective, the exhibition will feature live painted models depicting Guyana, including some folkloric figures.
The exhibition under the patronage of Culture Minister Dr Frank Anthony begins at 4.30 pm and the Guyana and Telegraph Company (GT&T) is the main sponsor of this new-to-Guyana event, the release said.
Body-painting utilizes the human form as the ‘canvas’ on which the painter-artist paints graphic scenes and artistic messages while physical movement augments the ‘human’ artwork in a lively manner.
The Bravo Arts leader gave the assurance that the female models will not be completely nude. Non-toxic body-friendly paints and the creativity of appropriate lighting effects will enhance the Castellani exhibition, the release added.
