A former Superintendent of Police was up to press time a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was stabbed by bandits during a robbery attempt at his home.
The injured man is 82-year-old Rambarran (only name given) of 186 Waterloo Street. A police release issued last evening said that around 5.15 pm, Rambarran allowed two men to enter his home after they pretended to be Laparkan agents delivering a parcel from his daughter who resides overseas.
“While in the home the men attacked Rambarran, who put up a resistance and was injured with a knife which one of the men picked up,” the police said. The men took away $200,000.00 and escaped after neighbours were alerted.
Rambarran was admitted to the hospital after being stabbed in the head and under his chin. Hospital sources told this newspaper last evening that the man was in a stable condition. Police are investigating the matter.
One neighbour told this newspaper that she was cooking when the elderly gentleman, who lives alone, was attacked. The neighbour said she only became aware of the incident when she heard some commotion, which her young son subsequently told her was coming from Rambarran’s apartment. She said that several neighbours rushed to the elderly man’s assistance and helped to transport him to the hospital.
Police are investigating the matter.
