Ageday finishes fourth in`B’ finals

Guyana’s national youth sprinter Chavez Ageday clocked 10.90 seconds in the ‘B’ final of the boys’ 100m event to earn himself a fourth place yesterday at the World Youth Olympic Games, currently ongoing in Singapore.

In a photo finish for the third place position, Ageday, Chinese Taipei’s Jen-Chieh Chen and Bolivia’s Bruno Rojas each clocked 10.90 seconds.

However Ageday was edged by Chen who registered a reaction time of 0.177s ahead of Ageday’s 0.178s.

Rojas ended the worst of the three placing fifth after registering a reaction time of 0.199s.

Running out of lane seven against six other contenders, Ageday ended with a 0.11 seconds difference from race winner Carlos Nascimento of Portugal.

In second place was Mexico’s Hector Ruiz who clocked Ageday’s personal best time of 10.87 seconds.

Ageday maintained his overall standing 12th position out of the 38 participants registered.

The 17-year-old had first earned  that position when he took part in the heats on Wednesday. He ended yesterday by shaving off 0.19 seconds from his original performance which placed him in the ‘B’ final.

Earlier yesterday table tennis player  Adielle Rosheuvel lost all four of her singles matches.

Rosheuvel suffered her first defeat against Brazil’s Caroline Kumahara.

Despite easy losses in the first two set, Roushevel put up a fight in the third set.

In her second game against Chinese Taipei’s Hsin Huang, Rosheuvel played much more strongly but lost 6-11, 4-11, 2-11.

Against Russia’s Yana Noskova, Rosheuvel lost 4-11, 4-11, 2-11  while France’s Celine Pang defeated the Guyanese 11 – 5, 11 – 4, 11 – 6.

Roushevel will continue her participation in the single’s category with matches against Australia’s Lily Phang and Belarus’ Katsiaryna Baravok respectively at 10:30 and 12:30 on the 22 August.
