PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – National all-rounder Samuel Badree was named Cricketer-of-the-Year following the end of the National Premier Cricket League here recently.
At the awards ceremony on Saturday night, the 29-year-old Badree walked away with the top award for helping his side Powergen to the Premier Division title.
The right-armer was also among the five top cricketers which included Windward Islands’ Gary Mathurin, Nicholas Alexis, Aneil Kanhai and Gregory Mahabir.
Badree, the Powergen captain, scored 446 runs in the League at an average of 55.70 and also snared 40 wickets at an average of 17.
Central Sports’ Mathurin, meanwhile, finished the season with 309 runs and 56 wickets while Queen’s Park’s Alexis hit 682 runs, including three centuries at an average of 62.30.
Kanhai of Merryboys had a commendable all-round performance with 217 runs and 52 wickets and Clarke Road’s Mahabir scored 668 runs including three centuries.
Powergen finished eight points ahead of Queen’s Park in the tournament.
