Warren Gilkes was the most valuable player of the night scoring the only goal of the game to allow the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) to get past Sunburst Camptown on the opening night of round two of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Super League tournament at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
It was the second defeat for Sunburst Camptown at the hands of GDF in recent times following the latter team’s victory over the former in the third place showdown of the GFF Super Eight Knockout Competition two Sundays ago.
However, this time around Sunburst Camptown put up a much tougher fight but still lost 1 – 0 compared to the previous game’s 4 – 1 blowout.
In the feature match of the evening, recent victors of the Super Eight competition, Alpha United, played to a stalemate with Seawall FC while at Bartica , Liquid Gold defeated Rosignol United in another 1 – 0 result.
The two games between Victoria Kings and Top XX and Buxton United and Milerock were postponed due to the unavailability of the Enmore Ground.
Meanwhile GDF and Alpha United will be involved in international action from tomorrow at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground (GCC) when the Inter-Guiana Cup tournament kicks off with a double header.
