Men’s squash team go down 2 – 3 to T&T

Wins from Richard Chin and Robert MacDavid were not enough to secure a victory over Trinidad and Tobago as the team event of the National Lotteries Authority Caribbean Squash Championships continued in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Locked 2-2 in their men’s team match, Trinidad gained the victory by walkover from the player-short Guyana team as there was no one there to oppose Trinidad’s Chayse Mcquan.

Newly crowned Caribbean men’s singles champion, Richard Chin, continued his winning streak against Trinidad’s Colin Ramasra beating him 8 – 11, 7 – 11, 11 – 4, 11 – 6, 11 – 3 while MacDavid triumphed over Mandela Patrick 11 – 7, 11 – 6, 11 – 2.

Trinidad’s wins came from Kale Wilson, who defeated  Alex Arjoon 11 – 7, 13 – 11, 11 -8 and Ryan Abraham, who defeated Julian Chin 11 – 3, 9 – 11, 11 – 9, 11 –  8.

That defeat follows on the heels of Guyana’s 1 – 4 loss to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) in the first round.

Richard Chin was the lone winner defeating Joseph Kneipp 11 – 4, 9 – 11, 11 – 9, 1\6 ret.

Alex Arjoon, basking in his earlier victory against the tournament’s 2007 champ Gavin Cumberbatch, was humbled by James Bentick 13-11, 11-6, 11-5 while MacDavid went under to Kevin Hannaway, 6-11, 10-12, and 5-11.

In the Veterans’ category, Guyana lost 1-4 to Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad needed only one win to secure victory in the category having won two of the matches by walkover through Shrian Slater and Leroy Lewis.

But Alwyn Callender fought gamely battling to the team’s only victory over Mark Chapman 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, 11-7.

In other matches, Brendon Mounter lost 3-11, 7-11, 4-11, to Paul Cyrus while Vonnie Roudette defeated Patricia Mounter 11 – 1, 11 – 3, 11 – 0 in a women’s match.
