Mark Ifill, the 49-year-old husband of Bibi Ifill, whose body was discovered at the bottom of a well Monday morning, was last night charged with murdering his wife, according to the Barbados Nation.
Ifill, of Porters, St James, is scheduled to appear at the Holetown Magistrates’ Court today.
The accused man reported his wife missing on August 15.
On Sunday he took Barbados Police to the place where he had buried his wife. Police found the body on Monday around 6am.
According to a report in the Barbados Nation yesterday, the man, a 49-year-old sub-contractor, had dumped his wife’s body at the bottom of a 20-foot well at the rear of the couple’s Porters, St James home.
“The body, partially decomposed, was removed from the well, which was sealed and concealed by a makeshift shed,” the Nation’s report said. Police and firemen spent all of yesterday morning trying to pull the body from the well, the report further stated.
On Monday, Ali’s sister, Zarfana Bacchus, recalled a history of abuse Ali had endured at the hands of her husband since she married him one month after they met.
Ali is suspected to have been murdered on Sunday, August 15. According to Ali’s sister, Ali and the man were going through a divorce.
“It seems last Sunday night it happen. She didn’t make it to work Monday,” Bacchus added.
After Ali did not show up at work, her friends reported her missing. Bacchus said that when police spoke to the man he had told them that Ali had a habit of disappearing for days and not informing him.
Ali leaves behind two children, ages 15 and 16 years, who reside here. “She was trying to save to come back to Guyana and do something,” Bacchus said.
Yesterday, Bacchus said that the family is currently making arrangements to bring her sister back to Guyana to be buried, “I don’t want she bury in Barbados look what happen to she over there. She’s a Guyanese I don’t want her burry in that land,” an upset Bacchus said.
