A Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice farmer is counting his losses after unknown persons destroyed sections of his farm sometime on Wednesday night.
Satyanand Lalbachan, who farms at Bush Lot, Middle Dam told Stabroek News that after leaving his farm intact at around 1:30 pm on Wednesday, when he returned at about 7 am yesterday, a number of plants had been destroyed.
The matter was reported to the police at the Fort Wellington Police Station but up to yesterday afternoon, no rank had visited him to check on the report, he said.
Lalbachan said that 95 plantain and banana suckers were chopped down, 20 roots of carila, a tangerine tree, a souree tree, a catahar tree, 15 ochro plants, seven banks of calaloo with about 300 plants to each bank were destroyed while branches were cut from other plants.
He suspected that the persons who destroyed his farm are people with whom he had an “old grievance”, after the persons stole plant chemicals from him. He said that the persons used the chemicals on their farm and he found out. He said that the persons he suspect also stole from him. Lalbachan said that his losses amounted to over $200, 000.
