Two new cadet officers who will aid in managing the prison service called on Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee on Monday.
Cadets Olivia Alfred-Cox and Deoraj Gyandatt were presented to Minister Rohee by Deputy Director of Prisons, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm McAndrew, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a press release.
McAndrew said that the cadets will help to enhance the managerial capacity of the prison service even as they are understudying in order to acquire the necessary tools.
Rohee pointed out that the Guyana Prison Service is a beneficiary of the cadet scheme set up by government, which provides efficient officers for the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force and Guyana Fire Service.
The cadet programme builds and strengthens the capacity of the joint services, particularly at the managerial level, the release said.
It is recognised that the joint services require a certain level of officers within its ranks, due to the fact that the ministry is committed to ensuring that the cadet programme continues.
This will result in the strengthening of the institutions the officers serve while young professionals move on to effectively serve the disciplined services, the release concluded.
