The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has been complimented by Interpol Brazil for the efforts that led to the recent capture of Euclides Erain Da Silva, one of Brazil’s most wanted fugitive.
Interpol Brazil, on behalf of their National Central Bureau, has expressed gratitude to the GPF “for the priceless help of the National Central Bureau Georgetown” and complimented “the vital Guyanese initiative” which led to the quick arrest, police noted in a statement on Thursday.
Police added that Da Silva, a Brazilian national, was arrested by police in Georgetown two Fridays ago and handed over to the Brazilian authorities four days later. The police did not state what the man was wanted for in the neighbouring country.
The reports reaching Stabroek News are that the businessman, who operated a service station on Hadfield Street, was arrested by police but later released on station bail. He continued to visit the police as was advised but was arrested at his business place several days later. He was later taken to Lethem by several ranks and handed over to the Brazilian authorities. His relatives after his arrest moved to the High Court to stop his removal from Guyana, claiming that he was Guyanese. The order, filed by attorney Nigel Hughes, was granted and served on the relevant authorities.
