Siblings on attempted murder charge over Cornelia Ida stabbing

Magistrate Haymant Ramdhani yesterday granted $300,000 bail to the Cornelia Ida man and his sister who allegedly attempted to murder his former partner Trishwari Ramdhary.

Abass Zaman, 27, and Zamaila Zaman, 23, of Seaview, Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara were not required to the plead to the indictable charge when it was read to them at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon.

It is alleged that on August 22 at Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, Abass and Zamaila attempted to murder Ramdhary.

Attorney Patrice Henry represented the two accused. Henry, speaking with this newspaper briefly via telephone late last night, said that his application for bail was granted by the magistrate. His clients were each granted $300,000 bail. The matter, according to Henry, continues at the Vigilance court on September 23.

Reports are that Abass inflicted at least seven stab wounds to Ramdhary on Sunday morning at the East Coast Demerara location after they argued about custody rights of their two children, a seven-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl.

The couple separated two years ago after a tumultuous relationship. It is also alleged that Zamaila looked on as Abass launched the reported attack on his former reputed wife.
