Dear Editor,
The Public Relations Department of the Georgetown City Council appears to be suffering from an acute allergic reaction to e-mail, a basic element of Information Communications Technology (ICT).
When will City Hall employ the simple and cost-effective solution of emailing its news releases and other media related material?
So archaic is that department, a critical arm of City Hall, that in the 21st century it hand-delivers its media materials. The Public Relations Department, on several occasions, has been given one single email address, ie, guyanamediauniters@googlegroups.com where it can send its releases and media advisories, but for some inexplicable reason it continues to operate in an archaic, slothful and incompetent manner.
The email address given earlier is being used by several public, private and non-governmental organisations with maximum efficiency and at low cost.
The last mind-boggling but unsurprising excuse I got from the Public Relations Department after the last news conference was that the Internet at City Hall was not working.
One hopes that the Public Relations Officer, Mr Royston King, would be kind enough to take remedial action so that his department, at the very minimum, can improve its service to the public through the media.
Yours faithfully,
Denis Chabrol
