Beginning today DIRECTV will be offering its customers incomparable coverage of international sports such as football, basketball and lawn tennis at the highest level.
Following Spain’s win at the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa, football fans are counting down to the start of the new season of Liga BBV A (formerly referred to as La Liga) and DIRECTV will again be there from today with unprecedented coverage for the fifth consecutive year.
Also premiering this weekend will be the Italian Serie A which starts tomorrow and the 2010 FIBA World Championship which commences today all on DIRECTV sports Channel 610.
To cap things off, DIRECTV’s will offer its unique Mosaic coverage of The US Open Tennis Championships which serves off on Monday and runs for five days.
DIRECTV is the home of La Liga and will provide exclusive live coverage of every single match for the upcoming season including a number of HD games (at least three per round) on DIRECTV sports HD – CH. 1004.
The pressure is on for the two top clubs in Spain and two of the most powerful football clubs in the world, Real Madrid and Barcelona, to continue that momentum and turn in stellar performances in the season following Spain’s historic World Cup triumph.
Italian Serie A now becomes another special addition to DIRECTV sports, kicking off its programming tomorrow.
Coverage will include three matches per round in addition to matches airing weekly on ESPN International – CH. 620 as well as matches in HD. The best matches will be shown between DIRECTV sports and ESPN.
While basketball fans await the start of another NBA season, they can get a taste of top class international action at the 2010 FIBA World Championship which will also be broadcast on DIRECTV sports with the first phase starting today.
Matches include those of select national teams; United States, Argentina, and Puerto Rico during the first phase of the event which ends September 2, after which 16 teams will advance to the knockout phase. The knockout phase will be covered in its entirety. This guarantees DIRECTV’s viewers coverage of at least 33 matches, all available in Standard Definition and High Definition.
Outside of the Olympics, the FIBA World Championships is the biggest basketball event in the world. It gathers the best basketball-playing nations to decide the best. Also, the winner gains a berth directly to the next Summer Olympic Games (London 2012).
