Their big name players played for the national side last night yet the Berbice Titans skittled out the New Line Cavaliers for a meagre 79 runs at the Guyana National Stadium last evening.
Police fast bowler Michael Newland spearheaded that decline of the West Demerara side in a match that should have been a keenly contested event.
West Indies under-19 pacer Keon Joseph provided the requisite support with 2-20 as they routed NLC in 19.1 overs.
Chien Gittens and Balram Samaroo were the only batsmen that provided stability, if only temporarily, to the otherwise disastrous display of the others batsmen. The team’s total also benefitted from the largesse of the Titans’ bowlers, who threw down 16 extras.
From the bat Gittens scored a 33-ball 18, which included one boundary, while Samaroo hit two boundaries in his 14-ball innings.
When the Titans replied Renrick Batson and Anthony Bramble nurdled the ball around initially before Batson freed his shoulders.
Bramble was the first of the pair go for five when the score was 24. Batson continued to be aggressive before he was caught by Coen Ismond for 31 from 25 balls when the score was 43.
They lost Keyon Fraser (6) eight runs later and then Anthony D’Andrade (12) when the score was 60- both batsmen falling to offspinner Orin Forde. Ranga Latchana and Eugene La Fleur batted with some luck as Latchana was dropped on seven when the score was 75 before La Fleur put the icing on the cake with a drive to the long on boundary.
Berbice reached 80-4 in 14 overs. Latchana was left not out on 11 from 11 balls while La Fleur finished on nine. Forde finished with 2-32 (4) and Andre Percival 2-13 from his four overs.
