Hafiz Sankar, the fisherman who was found dead in an empty lot close to his Pigeon Island house, died of a heart attack.
Sankar, 43, of Lot 6 Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara left home on the afternoon of August 20 for the foreshore, a short distance from his home. The following day, around noon, he was discovered in the empty lot.
Relatives had said that they found it strange that he would be found in a highly fenced and well secured yard. However, after an autopsy was conducted on August 23, Sankar’s son, Richard, said that they were willing to accept that the man died from natural causes. “His workers told us that he had been complaining about chest pains,” Richard told this newspaper via telephone last evening, “but he never complained to us…he was a man like that, he never liked going to the doctor.”
Police, in a press statement hours after the man’s body was found, had said that they were investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
