The PNCR yesterday handed over a quantity of teaching aids to the Ann’s Grove North Nursery School in what party leader Robert Corbin said was the first of a series of similar initiatives being held as part of activities commemorating the 25th death anniversary of party founder and former president LFS Burnham.
The presentation was witnessed by teachers and parents at the school where Corbin also promised to provide an electric fan for the children.
“Our founder leader believed that education was the foundation of the nation and paid particular attention to ensuring that we had educational facilities for our children so that they could be properly equipped to take Guyana forward,” Corbin said.
He added there were a number of nursery schools that would be receiving similar donations which were gathered from friends of the party and that yesterday’s presentation was also the first of more to come for the school.
“I came here first because you know Ann’s Grove had a very special place in the founder leader’s heart and he came here very often because he was concerned about the development of the community.”
He also called for the restarting of a literacy programme in the community saying that it had been the inspiration for another the PNCR started in Sophia.
Accepting on behalf of the school, Headmistress Andrea Ragunandan said they planned to use the items efficiently, adding that she was sure the children would find it “exciting.”
