The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) was saddened yesterday morning by the news that former national player Stanislaus ‘Knox’ Hadmon had passed away.
Hadmon, who also represented Eagles Basketball Club, made a significant contribution to the sport in Guyana during the 1970s and `80s, according to president of the Guyana Amateyr Basketball Federation, David Patterson who expressed his condolences in a press release to Stabroek Sport yesterday.
Hadmon was one of three Guyanese named on the CARICOM Basketball Team after the inaugural CARICOM Basketball Championships which Guyana hosted in 1981 and eventually placed third.
The other Guyanese players on the team were Hewley Harry and James Brusche.
He became the first player in the Caribbean to have an aggregate of over 100 points at the 1981 championships where he finished with 121 points including a top score of 34 points against Barbados.
Patterson also noted Hadmon’s exceptional shooting ability when contacted by Stabroek Sport via telephone for a further comment.
“He was an outstanding shooter… one of the best we ever produced,” Patterson emphasized.
“He [Hadmon] would often achieve a 100 percent shooting average from the free throw line in a season.”
The release further stated that “despite his achievements on the court, his most remarkable quality remained his humility, a virtue fast receding in today’s sporting world… Hadmon was respected by all in the basketball fraternity and he would be greatly missed.
“On behalf of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation and on my own behalf, I extend to the Hadmon family, heartfelt condolences on the loss of this truly remarkable Guyanese son,” the GABF release concluded.
