Dependable Spares, located at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, followed up its first year donation to the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) with another one yesterday.
At a presentation ceremony held in the showroom of the sponsors Manager Joshua Garraway presented over 30 colored uniforms and caps valued at $300,000 to national all-rounder Christopher Barnwell and West Indies under-19 player Trevon Griffith.
DCC president Alfred Mentore was loud in praise of the sponsors, referring to the donation as a fillip that marks “another good day in the history of the club.” The club was established in 1912 and is the ‘Home of the Legends’ of Guyana’s cricket.
“Certainly this is another good day in the life of DCC, as we are continuing from where we left off with Coach Gavin Nedd’s summer camp, wherein three of our national players in Travis Dowlin, Christopher Barnwell and Derwin Christian made a commitment towards the development of the club.
“Dependable Spares has been stepping up to the plate for the past two years by providing uniforms for our first division team and we are grateful to them for this generosity, as it not only shows their commitment to the club, but sports in general,” Mentore declared.
He said further that the uniforms provided by the sponsors were given in good faith since the club went onto win the national T20 championships last year. “After receiving their first set of uniforms and for the sponsor to come on board again, speak volumes of their on-field performance,” Mentore observed.
Meanwhile, Garraway said that his company was proud to be able to make the donation to the club and he pledged to continue the support.
Citing one reason for the company’s continuing support to the club was the ability of the DCC to execute its mandate.
