The Ministry of Housing and Water last Friday conducted another ‘One Stop Shop’ outreach where persons converged at Boorie Street, Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, Region Three, to secure a chance of owning their own home.
The Government Information Agency (GINA) reported that the programme saw a total of 68 houselots being distributed at the recently developed Block MH Scheme.
The exercise also addressed general housing issues including allocation, identification and payment of houselots, processing and distribution of titles and transport.
Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali in delivering remarks noted that housing is an important component as it has tremendous benefits for various segments of the economy.
“When someone builds a house, it’s not only the individual that benefits but different players in the economy benefit, since housing development has a (transformative) effect on the lives of people,” he was quoted by GINA as saying.
To add to the housing ‘boom’ more than 1,000 houselots will be added in Tuschen and the ministry will host another ‘One Stop Shop’ within a few weeks.
Moreover, more than 1,000 low income houselots have already been added for this year alone at Parfait-Harmonie. This will be coupled with the addition of 660 more houselots within a month.
Minister Ali said several interventions are also planned for this year which would include the addition of 1,000 lots at Zeelugt as engineers and planners are currently designing the area.
The ministry also intends to have before yearend documents ready for infrastructural development work for Leonora.
“The housing drive in Region Three will continue to be expanded, and have the necessary investment from the Government to ensure that not only the housing requirements for Region 3 but Region 4 and areas that are close to here move ahead,” Ali said.
As part of the ministry’s integrated team the commercial banks such as the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), Republic Bank, and New Building Society were present. Hand-in-Hand Trust and Courts Guyana Inc. were also present to deliver on hand service.
Meanwhile, work on the East Bank Development project of which more than 10,000 houselots will be made available is expected to commence before yearend.
Ali noted that government has invested $4B for the purchase of lands from GuySuCo to ensure that additional lands are made available for persons to have the opportunity to construct their dream house, GINA added.
