Dear Editor,
The Charity/Urasara Neighbourhood Democratic Council recently held a meeting with the vendors at the Charity roadside. The vendors are making some demands on the NDC which I feel are not necessarily the responsibility of the government.
One of the demands is that lighting and a fence must be in place at the tarmac for vending. Now if we are promoting a flea market idea this means the vendor comes, sells and goes back home with his items. No one should be allowed to leave their goods on the tarmac or even erect ugly looking structures like the ones at the roadside. How can we tolerate such lawless behaviour by people who want progress to continue?
With the establishment of a brand new shopping mall with state- of-the-art facilities (the only one in Essequibo) the shacks around this building must be relocated.
Mr. Alfro Alphonso who chose to invest his money in Charity should be given full cooperation by the Regional Administration so as to tidy up the area for the gala opening. A mini mall is also in construction which will boost shopping facilities to international standards.
Indeed, I hereby invite Minister Benn for a visit to Charity so that his professional input into this new town will be of some assistance.
At the same time promotion of planting of the mangrove tree along the river dam which is eroding rapidly can help save the constant erosion of the river dam.
Charity is the gateway to Moruka, Port Kaituma, North West District, Barama and Venezuela.
Yours faithfully,
Andrieko Basir
