Dear Editor,
We are led to believe that professionals are equipped to proffer profound advice when consulted, or to put it another way, it is expected that their written contributions would measure up to profundity.
I cannot honestly say that what was offered by Dr Bertrand G Ramcharan (Stabroek News, September 3) was in any way enlightening, but I do believe it was an honest attempt to arouse, in public, the necessary interest into scrutinizing stated policies.
I wonder whether it will not be a better undertaking by this professional – or any other for that matter – to review the respective records of the two major political parties whilst in government, maybe, say, for the period of the first 18 years. To be more specific, he should comment on the actual situation that obtained, which will show in one case, that the economy of the country was in tatters, whereas in the other, a wholesome economy is being enjoyed.
Yours faithfully,
David DeGroot
