Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad yesterday met Guyana’s Amazon Conquerors before they departed for South Africa to compete in the eagerly awaited Champions League Twenty20 tournament.
According to a press release, the minister extended his ministry’s support and wished the proud Guyana team the best of luck at the Princess Hotel, Providence, minutes before the team headed for the Dr Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
The Guyana Tourism Authority also handed over a number of small and large Guyana flags and several tourism packages to the team to help in the promotion of “Destination Guyana” while on their tour.
The Twenty20 tournament brings together the best cricket clubs in the world and this second edition of the tournament will feature 10 teams with Guyana representing the West Indies.
The Guyana team, which will be led by Ramnaresh Sarwan, will play their first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on September 12.
