Police Commissioner Henry Greene yesterday confirmed that Local Government Minister Kellawan Lall was involved in a traffic accident on Saturday night but declined to provide details.
Greene during a press conference would only say that the incident occurred somewhere in the Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara area and from the initial investigations “it does appear that the other parties were wrong, but we will have to get that from the final evidence”. He then stressed that the matter was under investigation.
According to reports, the minister struck a motorcycle with two men and then drove off.
When asked why the minister wasn’t held for fleeing the scene of an accident, Greene said, “I cannot explain that”.
He then refused to answer any further questions on the issue.
As a result of the incident, a High Court orderly sustained injuries to one of his feet and is currently a patient of the Georgetown Hospital.
When approached by this newspaper earlier this week, the injured man declined to speak.
