Dear Editor,
We the members of the Mahdia Red Thread group bought a pump to flush out the clogged pipeline which supplies water throughout our community. But this pump is yet to be used, because for some time it has been in the custody of the Mahdia (Regional) Administration.
We are now requesting the release of this pump to our community, so that it may be installed and used in order that water, a vital element, could flow freely, taking into consideration that –
(1) water consumption in Mahdia has increased widely, due to the ever swelling population; and
(2) about 2 months ago, fire destroyed the Mahdia Arcade. The taps were not flowing and water had to be obtained from distant creeks via lorries to douse the flames. Another fire occurred on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, on the Mahdia Hill-Top where buildings are clustered. A fuel tanker caught fire. These two fires highlight the need for the urgent release of this pump, so abundant water can be available in the event of future fires. And also, so the population can have adequate water for domestic and business purposes.
Yours faithfully,
Marcia Evans
