A man accused of stealing one gold magic mat (used for trapping gold) and a quantity of raw gold from his employer was on Wednesday placed on $150,000 bail when he appeared before new acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that between September 3 and 4 at Essequibo, Surij Ramjatar of 43 East Bank Essequibo stole one gold magic mat and a quantity of raw gold valued $122,000, property of Kamal Dean.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that the accused who is an employee of the virtual complainant (VC) stole the gold from a bag belonging to the VC.
The virtual complainant was not present at court.
The accused was later granted bail in the sum of $150,000. His matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for September 28.
