Two persons are currently in police custody in connection with the murder of Kaikan Street resident Dexter Gaspar.
Gaspar, 28, was discovered on Wednesday afternoon in his home. The man’s head, reports had said, was forced through the bars of his bed frame and his throat slit; he was gagged and his hands and feet bound.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said yesterday that a relative and another person were taken into custody. The Lot 2566 Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt property, according to Persaud, is currently under dispute. However, it is unclear whether the dispute over the property had anything to with Gaspar’s murder, Persaud said.
When Stabroek News revisited the North Ruimveldt location late yesterday afternoon the house was locked. Residents in the area told this newspaper that a relative was at the house earlier in the day and was seen fixing the back door.
This newspaper understands that there were signs of forced entry at the back door. It is still unclear whether anything was missing from the house.
Police in a press statement yesterday said they were investigating Gaspar’s murder. The man, according to them, was discovered in his home around 5 pm on Wednesday with marks of violence about the body. However, no other details were offered in the brief statement.
Gaspar was a supervisor in the Life Insurance Department of the Hand-in-Hand Group of Companies. After he failed to show up at work on Wednesday and to answer repeated calls from friends and colleagues they decided to go in search of him. His body was discovered in the rear bedroom of the two-storey house.
The man, his friends said, lived alone at the house. His immediate relatives reside abroad.
Music was heard coming from Gaspar’s house most of Tuesday night and Wednesday and his television was also left on. Residents opined that the man’s attacker(s) may have turned the stereo on to drown the man’s screams and to give the impression that he was home and well.
