Dear Editor,
Please accept WPA’s sincere thanks for publishing our press release as part of the report captioned ‘Victim in Lall accident fears being harmed – WPA slam police handling of matter’ in today’s (Thursday, September 9) issue of Stabroek News.
We note, however, that the last paragraph in the publication misrepresents the thrust of the statement contained in its penultimate paragraph. WPA believes that resulting from the unfortunate omission of the word ‘refusal’ from the sentence, an entirely different expression of what was intended has been conveyed to readers.
We believe that SN’s re-examination of the statement will confirm the opinion we have expressed. It is our hope that SN will understand the need for an appropriate correction to the statement, as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Desmond Trotman
for WPA Executive Committee
Editor’s note
We apologize for the omission of the word ‘refusal.’
The paragraph should have read:
“The refusal of the GPF to investigate criminal misconduct by political officials in high and low places in the PPP/C and the government is in sharp contrast to their frequently lawless conduct when they pursue allegations made against non PPP/C and non government functionaries…”
