Vishal Nandlall, 37, of 40 Area ‘A’ Ogle, East Coast Demerara was yesterday charged with abducting a woman.
Nandlall, an electronics salesman, was not required to plead to the charge of abduction when it was read to him by the acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He was placed on bail in the sum of $200,000 by the magistrate.
It was alleged that on October 12, 2009 at Georgetown, Nandlall abducted Kedesha Imran.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question, the defendant went to the complainant’s place of work and after she entered the man’s vehicle he sped off with her against her will. The prosecutor said that the police were later called in and the defendant was later charged for the offence of abduction.
However, attorney Mark Waldron, who represented Nandlall, told the court that his client had gone to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Limited to pay his telephone bill when he made acquaintance of Imran, who was there to do same. Some days after, Waldron said that Imran, who was at a city fish shop, called his client and asked him to take her home with his vehicle and he obliged. According to Waldron, Nandlall never took Imran “anywhere against her will.”
The attorney made an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that he had no antecedents, had a fixed address, posed no risk of flight and had been fully cooperating with the police in their investigation. The prosecutor had no objection to the bail application made by the attorney.
The complainant was not present at court.
Nandlall was later admitted to bail and the matter was transferred to Court Ten for September 14.
