Corporate giants Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) under its international brand, Pepsi, has renewed its partnership with of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s (RHTY&SC) Under-19 Team for the seventh consecutive year.
The team’s sponsorship for 2010 is worth $220,000 and would cover the cost of cricket balls for matches and practice, cricket gears, meals during matches, umpires fees and transportation.
Under the sponsorship of Pepsi, the team has won the Berbice championship thrice and is currently the back-to-back defending champions of
the Berbice Cricket Board Spready’s Under-19 tournament in 2008 and 2009.
Dominic Rickie who represented Guyana at the Under-19 level this year and national Under-15 players Shawn Perreira and Parmanand Narine are members of the team. Perreira, Loyden Lewis and Shailendra Shameer also made the national Under-17 Team.
Female West Indies cricketer Shemaine Campbell who was named as the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) female tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) has also benefited from the team’s partnership with the sponsor.
Secretary/CEO of RHTYSC, Hilbert Foster disclosed that the members of the team have been involved in 10 personal development projects at the cost of $600,000 during the year with the main aim of making a positive difference in the lives of fellow youths and less fortunate.
Team captain Rickie expressed gratitude for their continued support and confidence in his team mates and pledged that the members of the Pepsi Team would in 2010 once again be the Berbice Under-19 Champions.
He also committed the team to upholding the high standard it has set in the past and to continue to use the proven formula of hard work, dedication and discipline. Pepsi and DDL investment, Rickie stated has assisted players like himself to develop and for this they were very grateful.
DDL representative, Alicia Anderson stated that her company was pleased to be associated with the Rose Hall Town Pepsi Team and was satisfied with their performances over the years.
Anderson noted that Pepsi was always pleased to be associated with activities that kept youths away from social ills. She also challenged the members of the team to maintain their high performances and to strive to retain their Berbice Under-19 Championship.
