After closing its gates for a day of cleaning up, the Stabroek Market is now open.
On Friday the market was closed to facilitate a massive clean-up effort after it was flooded during Thursday’s spring tide. According to the Clerk of Markets Schulder Griffith some of the entrances to the market were open to the public yesterday.
On Thursday tidal waters had overtopped the defences behind the market flooding the entire facility. “I’ve never seen nothing like this in all my years at the market. Every part of the market had flood,” he had told this newspaper.
