Second round action in the Georgetown Football Federation (GFF) National Super League continues today with what promises to be five scintillating games at four venues throughout the country.
In the mining town of Linden at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground, the Linden contingent will be hoping to continue in the same manner where they left off last weekend but their task will be very steep this time around.
In game one which gets underway at 6pm, Milerock will tangle with Rosignol United; a win for Milerock will take them to 21 points and a possible second place position, while a Rosignol United win will take them to 23 points and a chance to remain in second position, since no other team can reach 23 points after this round of matches.
Game two commences at 8pm with Bakewell Top XX clashing with Alpha “The Hammer” United, the only unbeaten team in the competition who are sailing on top of the points standings with 27 points.
A win by Bakewell Top XX will be considered an upset as the team is stuck in eighth position which is not a safe place to be since they could be facing elimination with a loss.
In Bartica, Liquid Gold will play host to Victoria Kings in a game which will see the teams who are in seventh (V/Kings – 11 points) and ninth (L/Gold – 10 points) position vying for a victory to better their positions. The match up gets underway at 8pm at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
At the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground, Camptown will oppose the boys from the West Side, Seawall FC from 4pm.
The final game this week will be between Buxton United and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and it will be played at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground from 7pm. These teams are fifth (GDF) and sixth (Buxton) with 16 and 12 points respectively, and a win for either team will surely be a boost from their current positions.
