Omar Shariff maintained his lead in the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) organized Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL) Topco Juices Tournament when play resumed on Wednesday at the Keishar’s Sports Club.
Shariff took advantage of two blunders by Dennis Dillon in round four to take firm control of the match.
Learie Webster rebounded from three losses in three rounds to defeat Shiv Nandalall in a thrilling encounter. Webster started attacking from his opening moves and, along with some beautiful combinations, was able to secure the win.
In other results, Taffin Khan defeated Glenford Corlette while David Khan got past Alex Joseph.
The points standing after four rounds is: Shariff – four points, Taffin Khan, David Khan and Shiv Nandalall – three points each, Corlette and Errol Tiwari, two points and Webster, Dillon and Alex Joseph, one point each.
The tournament continues on Tuesday from 17:45 hours at the Keishar’s Sports Club.
