Dear Editor,
The REDD plan for Panama reflects a country with a clear vision of how, in specific terms, it intends to integrate REDD planning with sustainable development. It actually demonstrates how to build the architecture to support all the planning that is required. Guyana need not reinvent the wheel as Panama’s plan gives excellent direction that Guyana can follow.
The Panama plan even deals with many of the central problems of our current thinking and opens up a whole new way of conceptualizing the LCDS punctuated with terms such as continuous meaningful consultation, people ownership, inclusive joined-up approaches, multi-agency involvement and active indigenous participation.
It is recommended reading for our LCDS architects.
Yours faithfully,
F Hamley Case
