Local beverage giants Banks DIH Limited yesterday presented a sponsorship cheque to the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation ahead of next Sunday’s super clash between Guyana’s Golden Jaguars and Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors senior football teams at the Guyana National Stadium.
Both organizations were tight-lipped on the sponsorship package but Aubrey “Shanghai” Major, Director of the Kashif and Shanghai organization, said the package will assist in bringing to Guyana several overseas-based players who will represent the Golden Jaguars.
George McDonald, Banks DIH Assistant Managing Director/Marketing Director, presented the sponsorship cheque to Major in the presence of Carlton Joao, Sales and Marketing Executive of the local brewers. According to Major, Banks DIH has always contributed significantly to his organization, a relationship that goes back over 20 years.
Among the overseas players expected to join the current squad of 30 players in training are Jason Lloyd, Howard Newton and John Rodrigues.
Joao said that his company was pleased once again to be associated with the major event that brings together old rivals Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
Three matches are carded with the Under-20 teams of the two countries also squaring off in one of the supporting matches.The Golden Jaguars and Soca Warriors are both preparing for the Digicel Caribbean Cup while the Under-20s are gearing up for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 World Cup preliminary competition.
Guyana, Suriname Netherlands Antilles and St, Lucia will battle in the first round of the Digicel Cup from October 13-17 in the neighbouring republic.
The GFF has called up a squad of 30 players to continue training for the Trinidad and Tobago clash as well as the Digicel series.
Meanwhile, Guyana will host a second round tie of the CFU tournament from October 6-10 that will feature Grenada, Jamaica hosts Guyana and the winner of the US Virgin Island Turks and Caicos clash.
