Dear Editor,
The government is not at fault for Seema Mangar’s death and it is almost impossible for government to prevent all crimes. But the government needs to do more to combat crime and to catch criminals and bring them to book. The government should seriously consider putting up surveillance cameras all over the urban areas to keep an eye on criminal activities. Cameras are the next best thing to actually having cops on the scene. New York cops use surveillance techniques and have been quite successful in deterring crime or catching criminals in their acts. Recently, surveillance cameras assisted in catching two criminals who killed a Guyanese. If cameras had been up, the killers of Mangar would have been found already.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Seema whose short life was cut down by these modern day ‘choke and robbers’ who prey on hard-working decent people. Tears ran down my cheek for this pretty girl.
How could anyone be so brutal as to kill this young girl. Every Guyanese I have spoken with in NY is talking about the robbery and the girl’s death. They all feel deeply hurt and empathize with the family for their loss. This was a senseless killing. The bandits had no reason to murder this beautiful girl. They have a callous disregard for life and every angle must be pursued to bring them to justice.
Yours faithfully,
Vishnu Bisram
