Stabroek Market, winners of the recent Inter-Market Futsal football tournament staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall were presented with the top prizes during a simple ceremony at Banks DIH Conference Room at Thirst Park yesterday.
Officials of the team collected the winners’ trophy, $200,000 and medals at the ceremony. Stabroek Market had beaten Mahdia to win the title while Bourda Market claimed the third place.
Mocha placed fourth.
Brand Manager Lee Baptiste presented the first prize which was sponsored by Banks DIH under the Guinness Stout brand.
Tournament organiser O’Neil Durant, thanked Banks DIH for its support stating that next year’s tournament will be much improved. Fourteen market teams took part in the tournament organised by Stabroek Warriors.
The Most Valuable Player was Gerald Wittington of Stabroek Market while Alco Olivereia of Madhia was the leading goal scorer with 11 goals. The best goalkeeper on show was Travis Best of Stabroek Market.
Madhia received $150, 000 and medals for claiming the second position with Bourda taking home $100,000 and Mocha $50,000.
