Guyanese point guard Dave Causway scored 21 points to lead Royal Extra Lions to victory over Longdenville Bullets by a massive 34 points, to take the Central Zone Basketball League’s Knock Out title at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Chaguanas, Trinidad on Thursday night.
Lions in its debut season in Central has been the team to beat and Bullets failed in its attempt to avenge a 87-100 loss when the two teams met in the league.
Causway, the former Guyana youth player and Caton, scored 21 points each as their team eased to a 88-54 win, to remain unbeaten in Central. Royal Extra started the first quarter business like, and was able to stifle Bullets’ scoring as it jumped out to a big 17-point lead at the end of the period 24-7. The Longdenville team was able to break the shackles in the second period when it scored 21 points.
However, it could not contain the Lions, who scored the same amount of points in the quarter, maintaining a 17-point advantage at the half. The match changed in the third and fourth quarters as Lions put the brakes on the Bullets’ scoring allowing only 26 points in the last two periods, while scoring 43. Ako Pascal and Kenyatta Alfred supported Causway and Caton with 12 points each, while skipper Gerald Jobe had 13 and Elton Critchlow 10 for Bullets.
