Taking the action into the night the two-day annual Amerindian Heritage Month Sports and Fun Day took off yesterday at the Carifesta Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue, with the preliminary rounds of the male and female cricket, volleyball and football competitions.
In the eight-overs-a-side female cricket competition, Horizon Sports Club (HSC) and Cricket Lovers won through to day’s final round of matches while Solid Gold also progressed by virtue of a random draw.
In the male category Morakabai and Laluni are through to the final.
In football, defending champion Region Nine advanced by virtue of a bye while Regions Eight and Six progressed through wins against Regions One and Seven, respectively by identical 2-1 margins.
In volleyball, Lethem of Region Nine and Orealla of Region Six will face off today in the final of the men’s division, while in the female category the teams will today begin their pursuit of the title.
