Rising Sun Turf Club of Arima Park, West Coast Berbice, will come alive today for the True Friendship Committee Charity horse race meet and over $3.5 million in prize monies, trophies and other memorabilia.
It is estimated that over 60 of the country’s best horse and a number of new imports have already been entered for the annual event, which is held in collaboration with the True Friendship Committee and the Rising Sun Turf Club and which gets underway at 1pm.
Banks DIH Limited will take care of the event’s main feature in the B class category over a distance of 1400m and with a first prize of $400,000 and a trophy.
Headlining that category, which has over 15 entries, are the likes of The Message, Miss Orientate, Sweet Caramel, Tropical Passion and Prince Charming.
Silver Source, Star Tracer, Zelink and Miss Carina will be the newly-imported horses in the race.
In the three-year-old race for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies, which takes a top prize of $250,000, Stormy Lass, Zelona, Sky is the Limit, Stormy Deal, Fantastic Choice and Harvest will gallop for 1100m.
And the two-year-old event for horses of a similar stature will run over the same distance with a first prize tag of $200,000.
Sabrina’s Joy, Money Up Front, Princess Yasmin and Irish Girl have so far registered for the race which is expected to be keenly contested.
Night Crescendo, just off a convincing win in the Guyana Cup, will be looking for another bright day as it takes on its opponents in the highly competitive E Class event which will see the winner sprinting away with $160,000 over 1,100m.
Among those looking for revenge are Sweet Revenge, The Gap, Home Bush Baby, Laura lee In Flight and Bob’s Fortune.
Another race that will have pre-race hype is the Guyana-bred two-year-old horses.
The animals will be galloping over a distance 1100m and the winner will receive $150,000. Royal Salute, Kevin Nordan and Star Ginski are some of the entrants for this race.
Another close race is anticipated in the G class, which carries a top prize of $140,000. World Class, Zip A De Do Da, Gabriel’s Gold and Gold Romance will all be in the hunt for the pole position.
Diplomat will be looking for another devastating run in the I class but he will have to contend in this event with New World, Dream Girl, Monilisa and Savion over 1200m.
The event for I-3 horses has animals such as Spread the News, Sweetness Graphic and Royal Time competing for the $120,000 first prize in the 1100m sprint. The J class, for $100,000, will see the likes of Rum Till I Die, Natural Black, Bless Child and Nobody Knows.
Other incentives to be won are champion jockey and champion trainer and trophies will be provided by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
