Young Achievers and Castrol Strikers volleyball teams eliminated their competition to book their spots in the final of the True Champions Volleyball Tournament (TCVT) when they won their respective semi-final matches Saturday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Contesting the Fours format (four-players-a-side) in the first of two semi-final games against Rollers of New Amsterdam, the Young Achievers of West Demerara crushed their challengers in both sets of the opening semi-final match.
The Young Achievers, the top seeded team heading into the semi-finals, did not hesitate to impose their dominance on Rollers wrapping up the first set 21-8 and ousting their opponents 21-13 in the second set.
The second game saw the teams clashing in the sixes format, but a different format did not mean a different result for Rollers as Young Achievers rolled to a 25-15, 25-22 and 27-25 victory.
The other semi-final between Georgetownโs Castrol Strikers and GuySuCo Training Centre (GTC) of Port Mourant was contested in the twos and the sixes formats, since the rules of the tournament allowed sides to choose which format they preferred to play.
Having battled their way in the twos to match point at 29-28, GTC were unable to secure the match as Castrol Strikers struck and clinched a 30-29 win at the end of the set.
In the final game of the night, Castrol Strikers ensured GTC were out of the final with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-23 victory.
The date for the final has not yet been determined but is expected to be disclosed shortly.
