Alpha United Football Club is sitting pretty in the Guyana Football Federation National Super League tournament.
The team is at the top of the points standings some seven points clear of their nearest rival. They are on 30 points following last week-end matches and the club’s players are no doubt watching amusedly as the battle rages for second place.
Camptown United with 23 points, currently occupies the second position while the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Milerock and Rosignol United follow with 22, 21 and 20 points respectively.
On Sunday, Victoria Kings got the better of Buxton United 4 – 3 in a thrilling encounter contested at the Enmore Community Development Centre Ground.
Buxton United led 2 – 0 at half time but the former Kashif and Shanghai Champions clawed their way back into the game to eventually emerge victorious. At the Blairmont Community Centre Ground, Sewall United upset homesters Rosignol United 4-2.
Seawall United are at the bottom of the points standings with eight points.
The loss dropped Rosignol United, who were in second position to fifth.
The win pushed Seawall United to eight points two points adrift of Liquid Gold.
Bakewell Top XX and Buxton United each have 12 points.
Meanwhile, Bakewell Top XX and Sunburst Camptown played to a dull 1-1 draw at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground.
Top XX drew first blood but Sunburst Camptown was able to equalize and move into second position courtesy of the one point.
After a disappointing performance in the recently concluded Inter Guiana Club Championship, GDF put up an excellent performance to defeat Milerock 2 – 0 and climb up to third place with 22 points whilst Milerock slipped to fourth place.
The competition continues on Saturday at the Enmore Ground with Victoria Kings coming up against Top XX at 2pm while Buxton United tackles Milerock at 4pm.
