A brace from Rosignol United’s Delroy Fraser propelled them into the semi-final round of the third annual Cheddi and Janet Jagan Memorial Knockout Competition organized by the Berbice Football Association (BFA) on Saturday at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground. Fraser scored in both halves as Rosignol United comfortably sank opponents Ann’s Grove 3 – 0.
Ann’s Grove, the last of the teams from outside of Berbice, showed good skill and determination and, backed up by custodian Travis Allen who brought off some excellent saves, prevented the team from being on the receiving end of a much heavier defeat.
Ann’s Grove was forced on the back foot as early as the 10th minute when Fraser found the back of the net while in the 30th minute; Cornel Taylor extended the lead when he capitalized on an opportunity to score.
The second half resumed with Rosignol leading by two goals which soon became a three-goal lead when Fraser completed his brace two minutes into the half. On Saturday the semi-final round will take place with New Amsterdam United meeting Pistons United and Rosignol United facing off with arch rivals Monedderlust FC for places in the final.
