Gearing up for the Schools Champions of Champions athletic meet, Tutorial High School yesterday finalized the selection of their athletes with the completion of their Inter-House Athletics track events at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
While at the end of the day the ruling house was still to be declared, it was “B” House and “E” House that led the points race for most of the day and one of the two will top the seven houses meet.
The two houses are trailed by “D” House, which is anticipated to be ahead of “C” House in the points tally. Then “A” House would follow in the queue while the penultimate spot is expected to be “H” House followed by “G” House in the rear.
In the races, “B” House was privileged to include the stellar participation of national middle distance athlete, Jevina Straker. Competing in the under-18, under-20 and open categories, the youth Olympian took down the first level of competition on her journey to another anticipated scintillating display at the National Championships scheduled for November.
In the Open category Straker won 3000m and still had enough left over to make easy work of the 1500m in both the under-18 and under-20 categories. Further in the under-18 category, Straker contributed a further 8 points each from her participation in the 800m and 400m races.
Over in the corresponding boys open 5000m, Jermaine King dominated and also won in the under-20 800m, while in the 400m it was Kevin Bobb-Semple who took the boys under-18 category.
Over in the sprint events the 100m races generated the highpoint of the day’s excitement with Tutorial’s fastest athletes on show.
In the under-20 category “B” House’s Tinesha Marks was confirmed as the fastest female, Marrissa Permaul and Alexis McCurdy. In the boys division, Steven Grant made an easy finish of his 100m. There was no dispute over the race, as Grant took the race by storm leaving noticeable distance between himself and Keegan Henry in second place followed by Dominique Johnson.
Terencia Bishop, in the under-18 category, following an easy performance emerged as the winner of her category, running ahead of Acenia Moseley, who made a walk through of the 100m. Third palace went to Kimberly Bailey. Wayne Walker led the male category in the 100m, trailed by Oren Duke and Keifer Primo, respectively.
Abbiasi Boob and Abdul Straker were the respective winners of the under-16 female and male categories. Melanie Cain took full control of the female under-16 100m race, and Keyshawn Griffith led the boys.
In the under-12 category Shanice Singh and Shamaul Patrick earned themselves the right to participate in the Champions of Champions.
