Hemchan Dass, a farmer of Number 58 Village, Corentyne pleaded guilty to charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and was sentenced to two years imprisonment.
The court heard that on September 21 at around 10:30 pm Dass was found with a 12-gauge pump action shotgun with three live matching cartridges without being the holder of a firearm licence.
He appeared at the Springlands Court yesterday to answer the charges and Magistrate Krishndat Persaud imposed the sentences which will run concurrently.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Michael Grant told the court that police received information and conducted a search on Dass’s home and found the gun and ammunition under a mattress.
