Middle order batsman Jeetendra Sookdeo will be replaced by Chandrapaul Hemraj in the Demerara Under-23 side that will play Berbice Under-23 at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground today for the Colin Wiltshire trophy.
Sookdeo was injured during his team’s final practice session at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) yesterday. Sookdeo was selected in Demerara’s 14-man team after it was trimmed from 24 while Hemraj was listed in the reserve group of players.
According to an e-mail from the DCC Sookdeo is receiving medical attention for a laceration to the small finger. According to coach of the side, Garvin Nedd, during a catching practice session the ball cut Sookdeo’s finger when he attempted to catch it.
Meanwhile, Steven Jacobs has been appointed captain while Rajendra Chandrika will be his deputy. Jacobs, however, will miss tomorrow’s match because he only just returned from South Africa with the national team that played in the Airtel Champions League 20/20 tournament.
Chandrika will captain the side today and Vishal Singh will assume the role of vice-captain.
