Ten beauties from different parts of Region Two will vie tonight for the title of Miss Essequibo 2010 at a pageant being held at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.
The pageant is being promoted by the Lake Mainstay Resort and its Chief Executive Officer Wilfred Jadnarine said the resort hopes to make it an annual event. He said the idea behind the
pageant was to promote Region Two as well as to allow the contestants to have the confidence to believe in their dreams.
He said Lake Mainstay Resort had a number of
other activities planned to help promote tourism in Region Two and in turn this will benefit Guyana.
Pageant Coordinator Deryck Moore said that it was always his dream to work with in the pageant industry and
especially in Region Two. He added that this region has a lot of talented people that need exposure. He said the pageant would help break the ice and put Region Two talent on show.
Moore added that there is a
“nice melting pot of the races in the pageant.”
Last Sunday the contestants gathered at Lake Mainstay Resort for a photo shoot. Speaking to this newspaper they all said they were thankful for the opportunity to be part of the pageant and expressed gratitude to the CEO of the Lake Mainstay Resort for promoting it.
One contestant, Neisa Fredricks of Wakapou said the resort made her feel as if she was home “it is home away from home”. She also added: “I am proud to be an Amerindian and also wish that my fellow Amerindian girls can take part in this event if not now maybe next year.”
The contestants are all between the ages of 18 and 25 years old. They are Diana Husain, 17; Madonna Adams, 22; Malika Courtman, 22; Marcel Hublerd, 19; Mishan Gracis, 25; Neisa Fredricks, 22; Sauda Roberts, 23; Seromanie Choomanlall, 19; Shevon Tyrell, 23; and Teanna Spellen 18.
