With three weeks completed in this new school year, we asked students and parents what their expectations were, especially since September is also Education Month. Their answers follow below:

Chryssanti Braithwaite, GTI student
– ‘What I expect this term is to pass with distinction because I’m doing a commerce course and this is my final year. I hope to move on to UG in September [next year] to a marketing course.
My plan is to aim for the sky and whatever I fall on, I’ll take. It’ll mean a lot to me because CXC could only take you so far and to be an influence and get a certain kind of job certain academic achievements are required of you.’

Ann Whitehead, legal clerk and mother of one –
‘I am a first time mom and my daughter started school for the first time this term. She is happy to be in school and I am happy… I expect her to be caring and a responsible nursery child in her own little way.
I am supportive of her and would ask her what she was taught in school and I observe her behaviour. So far I’m seeing good things.’

Juliene Hinds, lower sixth student – ‘Today was my first day of class actually. I know that I need to put in a lot of work to excel. I am going to work harder and do my best for my new school and make them proud of me. I’m also hoping for the best when I run and throw the javelin for sports.’

Breana Nicholas, first form student –
‘This is my first time in high school. I expect that when I write CXC for Tutorial I come out as the top student. I’m willing to work as hard as possible to make this happen. And I am hoping that my high school experience will be a great one.’

Gita Roopnarine, private sector employee –
‘I have two children in Grades Four and Six. First off all I can say considering the circumstances, we’re not rich but we’re not poor; they do very well. I have the battle of the titans in my house. They are competitive. Each term they try to out do the other.  This term I’m expecting the same results and even more. I don’t pressure them to do their work but I always sit down with them and go through the day’s work.’

Christopher Moriah, private sector employee –
‘I have a son who is in fifth form and I am expecting the best from him when he writes CXC next year. I’m expecting good grades and wish him success.’

Jason Mortley, fifth form student – ‘I’m hoping to achieve five grade ones or six at the next CXC. Well, the books is it: revising, researching and studying. For the past couple of terms I haven’t been performing well so I hope to change that this term and be in the top ten.’

Ramlall Seelall, private sector employee – ‘My son just started high school and I hope he studies hard and does well in school. Only this afternoon I was at a meeting and the headteacher was saying what they hope to achieve and I hope he makes the best of it.’

William Lambert, private sector employee – ‘I have two children, a girl in second form and a boy at UG. I hope they work harder and I will support and encourage them along the way. I am mostly hoping for improvement from the last school term.’
