PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has defended Guyana’s poor showing in the recent Champions League Twenty20, arguing the side lacked international experience.
“When T&T played at the Champions league in India in 2009, we had nine international players on our team. This gave us a lot of experience and we were able to go out there and battle well,” Bravo said on his return here from the CLT20 where he played for Mumbai Indians.
“In the case of Guyana, they did not have that kind of experience and in the end it showed. I spoke to the players before and during the tournament and it was clear that inexperience was a big factor.”
Playing in Group B, Guyana lost all four of their games in the tournament in a lacklustre display.
They went down to Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets, lost to Mumbai Indians by 31 runs, before losing to Lions of South Africa and the South Australia Redbacks in their final games.
Bravo, a key figure in T&T’s success last year, said the experience would serve Guyana well in the future.
“They may have lost all their matches and while people have come down hard on them, they must remember that it was a young team and they will be better off for the experience gained,” the 26-year-old noted.
Last year, T&T played unbeaten in to reach the final of the inaugural tournament before losing to New South Wales Blues of Australia.
