Chatterpaul Deo warmed up for the Suriname Open with an impressive win in the Akbar’s Auto Sales sponsored golf tournament played Saturday at Lusignan Golf course.
Deo who is one of the players listed to compete in the neighbouring republic this weekend recorded a net of 69 from a gross 83 playing off a 14 handicap on his way to victory from a field of 34 golfers.
There was an intense battle for the second position with four players, Albert Russell, Christine Sukhram, Mohanlall Dinanauth and Patrick ended on net scores of 72.
However, Russell (17-89-72), a member of the diplomatic corps secured the runner-up spot on a countback.
Guyana’s leading female player Sukhram ( 8-8-72) claimed the third position.
The Nearest to the Pin prize was captured by the impressive Boloram Deo who also won the prize the previous weekend.
Club Captain Prashad expressed gratitude on behalf of the Club to Akbar’s Auto Sales for sponsoring the tournament.
He said the tournament received excellent support from members of the club.
Club Secretary William Walker who spoke on behalf of the sponsors said Akbar’s Auto Sales was a reputable company and he encouraged club members to support the auto dealership.
Meanwhile, seven local golfers are expected to travel to Paramaribo this weekend for the RBTT Suriname Open championships slated for October 2-3 in at the Suriname Golf Club.
The squad includes club executives Walker, Prashad, Mike Guyadin and features Chatterpaul Deo, Dinanauth, Brian Glasford and John Tracey.
The local contingent leaves on Thursday for Suriname.
